Today I feel like I am working for my “Ms. Suzie-Homemaker” badge. I’ve made biscuits and brownies (both grain-free, of course), butternut squash puree’ for dinner, fed Jordan, fed myself, turned away a door-to-door salesman, have finished three loads of laundry, including cloth diapers… whew! One day I hope to achieve “Domestic Goddess” status. I think, though, that I would have to do all of the above, plus clean the bathroom (the avoidance of is why I’ve spent so much time in the kitchen & laundry room), all while wearing high heels and an evening gown that I made from cloth I wove.

It’s been hard for me to wrap my brain around being a stay-at-home mom. I’m not really that good at housework. Probably because I don’t like it. I’m not changing the world, I’m changing diapers.

But I know this is what I need to be doing right now. My husband is about to enter the busiest time of the year for coaching nordic skiing, while getting another part-time job. I just looked at his schedule and was a bit overwhelmed for him. I might not see him from November through March! (A slight exaggeration) So, I am coming to grips with the fact that my most glorious purpose right now is to serve my family. Keep the laundry going, keep dinner cooked & ready, and … yes, clean the bathroom.

I am also learning that this role does not exclusively define me. I am not “just” a stay-at home mom and wife. I am still God’s girl. With His desires and dreams living inside of me. I just have a new job to learn.

I continue to be excited about the expansion and increase that he continues to speak to Duncan and me about. Increased capacity, expanded vision. We know we need to continue to grow in wisdom, understanding and intimacy with God so that we will be mature.

This verse has been an ever growing theme for me lately:

Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:4

So… today I will seek God for wisdom about how to do my new job well, ask him to show me how to “number my days” – in other words – help me know my priorities for this day and focus my time and energy accordingly.
